Overview

Surat Thani is located in southern Thailand, bordering the Gulf of Thailand and including many famous islands such as Ko Samui, Ko Pha Ngan, and Ko Tao. The main city lies along the Tapi River and is known as an important trading gateway of the province. Although the city itself is not a major tourist destination, it is an ideal transit point to the islands and coastal bays. The local economy relies on agriculture and the marine tourism services of the islands. During festival seasons like Chak Phra, Surat Thani becomes more vibrant, attracting both locals and tourists.
